From the land of Fionn Mac Cumhaill to the land of Robin Hood...
5 o' clock on the morning of the 31st March came quickly for the ten lucky Scoil na gCailíní girls selected to travel to Newark as part of the East West project. Project coordinator, Kathy Mc Carville, and Anne Clarke, school principal, joined in with the excitement as the children waved goodbye to their parents and began their journey to the North-East of England.
As the Ryan Air jet landed in East Midlands airport, the children cheered and were enthusiastic to discover the land of Robin Hood, in which the partner primary school is situated. The fact that the twelve travellers had already been up for hours did not affect the excitement once they entered the front doors of Holy Trinity primary school.
For two glorious days, the children and teachers enjoyed the experience of education in an English primary school, and more importantly, built upon the relationships already created through various work projects carried out back at home in Scoil na gCailíní. Friendships grew and blossomed.
The breathtaking views of the Tudor town and the Saxon castle ruins were indeed absorbed and stored in the memory forever, indeed truly wonderful sights!
On arrival back to the Íontas centre on the 2nd April, the girls' only wish was that they could have had a few more days away! Both elated and exhausted, the twelve went home to tell their tale of an exciting learning adventure, which was nothing but a complete success!
