Scoil na gCailini receives Green Flag!

Mrs Clarke, Mrs. Duffy and two 6th class girls represented our school in Dublin last week when they accepted the first of seven Green School Flags for Litter and Waste. This is a very important and ongoing project our school has commited to and we are now getting ready for the next step in the programme which is Energy!
We will be hosting a day of celebrations in the coming weeks when we will raise the flag for the first time! This day will be open to family and community members and we will keep you posted on the details further to the time.
Well done to ALL staff and students for the constant hard work and effort you have put in so that we could achieve the flag. Keep up the good work!

What is Green-Schools?

Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknow-ledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.
The aim of Green-Schools is to increase students’ and participant awareness of environmental issues through classroom studies and to transfer this knowledge into positive environmental action in the school and also in the wider community. Schools that have successfully completed all the elements of the programme are awarded the ‘Green-Flag’. This award has now become a well-recognised Eco-Label. The award has to be renewed every two years.
